Celebrating the life of Shawn L. “Air Smooth” White, Ph.D. Dr. White was a community leader, father, and educator who created educational health initiatives on HIV/AIDS as well as sexually-transmitted diseases aimed at young African American men in Philadelphia.

A celebratory mural honoring Philadelphia’s own The Roots, recognizing the legendary band’s groundbreaking contributions to music, culture, and the arts. The mural celebrates their deep connection to the city while highlighting the creativity, influence, and enduring legacy they continue to share with audiences around the world by Lead Artist(s):  Ernel Martinez, Charles Barbin, Willis Humphrey, and Keir Johnston 

The scene is painted on the wall of Engine #11, a historical African-American firehouse. W.E.B. Du Bois is depicted observing a city scene with a census in his hand. Dr. Du Bois, the first African-American to earn a doctorate from Harvard and a founder of the NAACP, was invited by the University of Pennsylvania department of sociology in 1896 to conduct a survey of blacks living in Philadelphia’s Seventh Ward. The study, which was the first scientific study of race, served as the basis for his classic 1899 paper, The Philadelphia Negro. Painted by Willis “Nomo” Humphrey

Mural honoring Phillies great Richard “Dick” Allen, a seven-time All-Star, who spent nine of his 15 major league seasons (1963-77) with the Phillies and won National League Rookie of the Year in 1964 painted by Ernel Martinez for the Mural Arts Philadelphia.

Little Nature Playgrounds - Linda painted four ground murals along the 63rd Street Corridor Bike and Walking Path at Cobbs Creek to support environmental engagement and learning stations. In partnership with the Clean Air Council, Tiny WPA, and Playful Learning Landscape Action Network.

Legacies: Our Neighbors Lead and Inspire - Upon retiring from the position of city council president of Philadelphia, Daryl Clark wanted to give a gift to the neighborhood that he grew up in North Philadelphia of Sharswood/Strawberry Mansion. Built From The Block:  The Zach Frazier Mural Project

This mural recognizes Frazier’s journey as a union carpenter, mentor, father, and respected Northwest Philadelphia leader whose work continues to create meaningful pathways for young people. Frazier also curated and facilitated a 12-week workshop series with the Rec Crew through MAP’s Restorative Justice program.

In the Orbit of Ra - This piece is a tribute to the cosmic brilliance, imagination, and legacy of Sun Ra and the Sun Ra Arkestra. Sun Ra was an architect of possibility. A pioneer whose sound, philosophy, and vision helped shape Afrofuturism, he imagined new worlds through music, myth, and creativity. His influence continues to ripple across generations, and his legacy remains alive through the Arkestra’s ongoing practice and performances.

As part of a partnership between Mural Arts and the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services’ Engaging Males of Color (EMOC) initiative, Mural Arts’ Colorful Legacy mural  culminated in a new mural by artists Willis “Nomo” Humphrey and Keir Johnston, informed by Mural Arts’ participatory public art-making process.

Del Pasado al Futuro

Hecho en Philly was designed by artists Anne Harrison and Linda Fernandez to bring attention to the makers, artists and creatives working in Philadelphia today. The Hecho en Norris Square Craft Market focuses on the creative community in eastern North Philadelphia and utilizes public space in Norris Square Park as a venue to showcase emerging and established vendors from 19122 and 19133.

In collaboration with Studio Zwede and Strawberry Mansion CDC, our team gathered community input in a seven month engagement process, asking residents how they’d like to spend time at the neighborhood reservoir.
